Week 30

We had another ultrasound this week to check the very, very minimal previa, which is still there. But at this ultrasound, we got these cool 4d pictures of the kid. Kind of creepy that they can do this right. Plus they really should warn you before they switch from the usual ultrasound viewing to this. One second we're looking at the static outline of the baby, and the next thing we now we're seeing a face. Everything looks good with the baby. He's was 3lbs 2 oz when they did the ultrasound, so even though I'm still not gaining weight, he definitely is. It looks like we'll be doing another ultrasound next month sometime to check the previa again. Mine is very minimal, and is only a concern at this point once I begin labor and dilation of the cervix starts. So we're still waiting it out, and they may not be able to identify if a c section is necessary until I'm actually in labor.

Speaking of labor, Matthew and I finished the childbirth classes. Matthew made it through, although I'm not sure the class facilitator would agree that he's ready for being a labor coach. She actually suggested I get a backup coach. Too bad my backup plan moved to California. I'm not worried though, after seeing those videos of labor coaches asking stupid questions, and rubbing arms or backs when the lady obviously just wanted him to back off, and seriously when is it ever a good idea to say "wow, that was a big one wasn't it". So, I'm thinking I may prefer him passed out on the floor at some point. Although I know him well enough to know that once it starts, he'll man up and forget about his issues with "seeing anything".

Baby Showers

Last weekend we traveled up to the farm for our first baby shower with the family. Andrew and Colleen worked hard to renovate their dining room so we could have the shower there. They're house has turned out so awesomely, and I'm slightly impressed that they've done most of the work themselves. It sounds like everyone was pitching in to get the room done in time, and I'm honored that the first time they really got to show off all the renovations they've done was at my baby shower. Mara, Charity, and Colleen planned a beautiful shower, complete with these awesome animal cupcakes. My favorites are the frogs. Matthew and I are very humbled by the generosity and joy everyone shows us.

These are the awesome cupcakes. Check out the bull front and center. They came up with that one on their own.

24 Weeks

We had another ultrasound yesterday to check the partial previa I have and the size of the baby. The doctor was a little concerned at my last appointment last week that I haven't been gaining weight and wanted to make sure that the baby was. Everything looks good. The baby is a good size and still has all his parts. I still have the partial previa, so they'll check that again in a month or so with the hope that it will resolve itself.

Otherwise, all is well. We've recovered from that nasty stomach virus and are both back to work this week. Matthew is attending a conference in Nashville (some geek fest thing to do with Wesley) this week and will return Friday. Until then, Molly and I are sleeping on his pillow and using all the kitchen items we're not normally allowed to even look at.

Happy New Year!

Christmas Balls!

We decorated our Christmas tree last night and poor Molly just can't understand why we got to play with all the balls and she isn't allowed to.

It's a Boy!

So we had our anatomy ultrasound today at 18 weeks and found out we're having a boy. Everything looked good; he's got everything he's suppose to have in the right places. He was kicking up a storm and flailing his arms all over. I can't believe he moves that much and I can't feel it yet. Kind of creeps me out a little. I mean there's a naked boy swimming around my stomach. Slightly strange.

I'm feeling really good lately, and finally starting to get some things done around the house that I've been putting off. We're also starting to figure out what we need to get for the little guy. Babies need a lot of crap and you have to find a place to put all that stuff. Matthew was very excited to be given a jogging stroller this week. He's looking forward to using that. I really hope the kid doesn't inherit my tendancy toward motion sickness.

We're having a baby!

Surprise! For those of you who haven't yet heard, Matthew and I are pregnant with our first child. If surprise is your response, imagine mine. Almost seven years after we first started trying, we both had gotten used to the idea that we'd be building our family through adoption, not having one naturally. But now that the shock has mostly worn off, we're just very excited.

We had our first trimester screen ultrasound on Thursday (Oct 16) and got to see our baby moving around quite a bit and hear the heartbeat. Matthew was very happy to see it had arms, since in the first ultrasound we had early on for dating it looked like a bean with eyes. And, I'm finally over the ill feelings and can now brush my teeth without hurling. So things are looking very good so far. Will try to keep you all updated, but if you look at the date of my last blog post, you'll see that I suck at this.
